Women of Achievement and Jeanette Rankin Awards Presented Aug. 29th Celebration
Thank you to all who attended and helped make our 90th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage & 2010 Women of Achievement Awards such an amazing success!
It was our pleasure to present the 2010 Women of Achievement and the Jeanette Rankin ‘Courage to Run’ Awards to many deserving women!
The 2010 Women of Achievement Awardees were:
Betsy Butler, Candidate for the 53rd Assembly District and long-time organizer and activist, nominated by NWPC LA-Westside;
Janet Cloonan, former President of NWPC Fresno and political activist, nominated by NWPC Fresno;
Marguerite Cooper, former US diplomat and long-time women’s rights activist and leader, nominated by NWPC Pasadena;
Joy Picus, former Los Angeles City Councilwoman and community leader, nominated by NWPC San Fernando Valley;
Linda Templeton-Dent, Vice President of SEIU 721 and leader in union rights for women and people of color, nominated by SEIU 721
NWPC CA President, Teray Stephens inaugurated the new Jeanette Rankin ‘Courage to Run’ Award, in honor of Jeanette Rankin, the first woman elected to the United States Congress in 1916.
