Gloria Allred’s fast for the ERA inspires “Put the ERA on the FAST Track” campaign by National Women’s Political Caucus of California.

August 13, 2010 (Los Angeles, CA) – Gloria Allred’s fast for passage of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) gains support from the National Women’s Political Caucus of California (NWPC CA) when the organization launches “Put the ERA on the FAST Track” campaign at a press conference in Gloria Allred’s office today, Friday, August 13th.

The Fast Track campaign supports Allred in the 90-meal, solid-food fast she began July 27th to bring attention to the Equal Rights Amendment (House Joint Resolution 61), introduced by Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-NY). Allred’s fast ends August 26, the 90th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage.

“Put the ERA on the FAST Track” is a viral Internet campaign that encourages individuals to visit www.nwpcca.org and sign letters of support for the ERA, join with Allred in fasting for some period of time, and forward the email to their friends and associates – to also sign and commit.

The goal is to have at least 10,000 people sign letters of support for passage of the ERA, and make a commitment to fast a minimum of one hour, or a minimum total of 10,000 hours. All letters and pledges will be forwarded to Representative Maloney and the U.S. Congress.

“Without the ERA, women must accept fight long, expensive, and difficult judicial battles to ensure their rights,” said Teray Stephens, NWPC CA President. “The ERA is one sentence which guarantees equal rights under federal, state, or local law and cannot be denied on account of sex. The USA needs to walk our talk and confirm that we are committed to equality for every US citizen, regardless of gender”.

Allred will emcee NWPC CA 2010 Women of Achievement Awards when the organization celebrates the 90th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage on August 29th at the Renberg Theater in Hollywood. In addition to attendees, supporters can drop by the Renberg on the 29th from 1-4 p.m. to sign letters of support for the ERA and pledges to fast.
