2008 Endorsed Candidates in California
The NWPC Endorsement Process
o NWPC-California shall endorse only women candidates (statewide office, State Legislature, State Supreme Court Justices, County Boards of Supervisors, and Mayors of major CA cities). A major California city is defined as any city with a population of 250,000 or more, according to the last census. Locals may make recommendations.
o Local caucuses shall endorse only women candidates within their caucus boundaries. Caucus must be fully credentialed by NWPC-CA to make endorsements.
o Candidates for federal level positions (e.g. U.S. Congress) are considered for endorsement at the national level; state recommends. State may make recommendations.
o No consideration of male candidates is authorized at any level.
Candidates must be in agreement with NWPC bottom-line issues:
o Equal Rights Amendment
o Choice and Publicly Funded Abortion
o Support increased access to child care and other dependent care programs funded from all available sources.
o A firm commitment to ending discrimination based on age, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, marital status, socioeconomic status, and disability
o A firm commitment to comparable pay for work of comparable worth
o Support of elimination of sexual harassment
The candidate must also:
o Be a credible candidate
o Be interested in receiving NWPC endorsement
o Include NWPC endorsement in all appropriate campaign materials upon receipt of the endorsement
